The hotel was built on 12th century foundations, a bit later than
the Abbey of Sant Pere.
It is a listed building by the Council of Besalú, therefore
considered a local heritage. This meant that at the time of reconstruction
many its original features had to be kept, such as the cellars,
the first stretch of the main staircase, the facades, the distribution
within three floors, and the octagonal structure that crowns the
building, popularly known as "El Colomar", a good source
of natural light.
Old people from Besalú also know the building
as "Cal Boter "
or " El Sindicat
".
