Lleida. The Palace of the Paeria
(Town Hall) is one of the few examples of civilian
romanesque architecture to be found in Catalonia,
together with Can Llaudes in Besalú. In one of the
halls is kept a valuable gothic altarpiece and the
miniatures of the Book of Uses and Customs dating
back to the XIVth century. The New Cathedral of barroque
style contains some important XVIth century Flemish
tapestries. The old Saint Mary Hospital is a beautiful
example of gothic architecture with plateresque influence.
The National Park of Aigües Tortes
and the lake of Sant Maurici are especially charming
for their landscape, harsh, but combined with the
water lend it a great esthetic force.
